REVIEW: Natives: Race and Class in the Ruins of Empire by Akala

Hardcover version of Natives by Akala

So I read this a few weeks ago and can honestly say hand on heart that this book is THE most comprehensive examination of race, class and colonialism in a modern context I have ever encountered. It joins the dots so well between history and everyday life on the street and is presented in the most authentic and articulate fashion, navigating extremely complicated ideas and presenting them in a simple and bulletproof fashion due to the extensive, yet digestible research conducted on every single theme covered.

Personally, it resonated extremely deeply on all levels, and will definitely be of interest to anyone with an open mind and heart. Akala has not only produced a modern masterpiece, but has elevated himself to the level of an all-time great thinker and intellectual of our generation, all at the age of 35!!!!

Nothing but RESPECT for this young man. It’s impossible not to appreciate the amount of work that has gone into ensuring this book will stand the test of time to guarantee it’s place as one of the modern classics and a new benchmark for works that follow in the category of race, class and empire.

Essential reading, especially for those raising the next generation to understand the (often silent) struggles of modern Britain.

From a very tough critic…

10/10
